Jacqmotte Café, 1896, Fernand Toussaint

A Brussels artist, Fernand Toussaint gained international recognition for the quality of his worldly portraits, in particular for his paintings of elegant young women of the bourgeoisie.

Close to his compatriot Alfred Stevens, whom he met on his arrival in Paris, he was also a member of the avant-garde circle, La Libre Esthétique.

His poster for the Jacqmotte cafés, produced in 1896, remains an icon of Art Nouveau to this day.
