The Eiffel Tower seen from the roofs of the Petit Palais, 1947 René-Jacques

Born in Cambodia in 1908, René Giton, known as René Jacques, adopted a career as a photographer in the late 1920s. Both cultivated and a peerless technician, he worked for forty years with Harper’s Bazaar, Arts et Métiers Graphiques, Fortune, or else Plaisir de France. His mastery made him a much sought-after photographer, as much for industrial documentaries in Renault’s factories, as for photographs of film shoots, such as Remorque with Jean Gabin and Michèle Morgan. He was eclectic, also illustrating numerous books, including the famous Envoûtement de Paris by Francis Carco. René-Jacques took part in associations of photographers, such as the group “Le Rectangle” and was one of the founders of “Le Groupe des XV” with Robert Doisneau, Willy Ronis, Marcel Bovis and Emmanuel Sougez.
