The feather, 1899, Alphonse Mucha

Artist Alphonse MuchaBorn in Moravia, Mucha moved to Paris in 1887 where he frequented the Académie Julian. After coming to light thanks to the poster he designed, by chance, for Sarah Bernhardt in Gismonda, he suddenly became the most prestigious illustrator in Paris. Consecrated by a solo show at the Salon des Cent in 1897, within a few years he produced an impressive number of images. Including posters for the greatest advertisers of the era, such as Moët et Chandon, Lefèvre Utile, Cycles Perfecta, or Job but also post cards and menus. Mucha was also to work for the jeweller Fouquet. He remained above all an extraordinary designer, with a highly pronounced graphic sense, whose elegance and virtuosity remain unequalled.
