The white cat, 1926, Hiroaki Takahashi (Shotei)
In 1907, Watanabe, the most famous 20th-century publisher of Japanese prints employed Takahashi and encouraged him to make the first emblematic prints of the Shin Hanga style. Takahashi then adopted the name Shotei and specialised in views of Japanese landscapes. Tourists and foreign collectors nostalgic of the old Japan immediately became passionate about the stamps created by Shotei.
