Venice and the Doge’s Palace, Richard Parkes Bonington
With a career that was as brief as it was brilliant, Richard Parkes Bonington, the British painter and lithographer, was one of the most influential artists of the romantic period. Thanks to his watercolour virtuosity, he formed a link between the English and French schools. The importance given to light in his watercolours meant that he helped to prepare the way for such precursors of impressionism as Boudin and Jongkind.
