Georges Barbier was one of the most important and prolific artists of the Art Deco period. After his first exhibition at the Galerie Boutet de Monvel in 1911 in Paris, he quickly reached the height of his profession, a position which he was to keep throughout his short life.
He was the essential fashion illustrator of Art Deco : Vogue, Le Journal des dames et des modes, Modes et manières d’aujourd’hui, Art Goût Beauté and of course La Gazette du bon ton edited by Lucien Vogel. He illustrated many luxury works in limited editions : Falbalas et Fanfreluches, Casanova, Fêtes galantes, Dessins sur les danses by Vaslav Nijinsky, Les Liaisons dangereuses or the superb Bonheur du jour.
