This 1963 poster celebrates the Soviet Union's space epic during the space race of the Cold War. Propaganda was used by Soviet leaders to present USSR as the most technologically and scientifically advanced nation. The Soviet Union kicked off the space race on 7 October 1957 with the launch of the Sputnik 1 satellite. On 12 April 1961, Yuri Gagarine became a global celebrity after becoming the first human being travel into space.
