Chamonix Mont-Blanc, summer winter, 1933, Henry Reb

René-Pierre Louis Besserve, a native of Montbéliard, studied at the Académie Julian and also the École des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier. A talented illustrator, he began his career alongside Juan Gris and Félix Vallotton on Le Cri de Paris, the satirical review founded by Alexandre Natanson.

Le Rire, Le Sourire, Ruys-Blas or else Fantasio also solicited his artistic talents. His posters for railway companies, in the purest Art Deco style, were undeniable successes.
