The pont Neuf, a tug, Paul Signac

Famous for his pointillist paintings, Paul Signac was also an excellent watercolourist. In 1892, aboard his boat L'Olympia, Signac produced his first watercolours. These works with one-off versions, impossible to revise, amazed this sailor and tireless traveller: "I've just discovered happiness," he confided. During his ceaseless voyages, he multiplied the number of his watercolours: Venice in 1904 and 1908, Rotterdam in 1906 and Constantinople in 1907. For Turner, he went back to London in 1909. As a nomad, in perpetual motion, he travelled around France and in watecolours painted a series of French ports. After finishing this major project, he discovered Corsica and passionately painted in water his last wonders.
