Visit Brittany, 1920, Joseph Stall

Joseph Stall, whose real name was André Lapuszewoki, was one of those artists who completely understood and assimilated the graphic revolution in poster art triggered by Leonetto Cappiello during the first decade of the 20th century. Along with Jean d’Ylen and Henry Le Monnier, he became one of the master’s finest disciples. For, as opposed to other poster artists such as Cassandre or Loupot, who recognised their debt to Cappiello before going their own way, Stall remained faithful to his mentor’s prescriptions: bright colours, with flat tints aimed at exploiting contrasts and unfailingly attracting the spectators’ eyes.
